Caprylhydroxamic Acid Disinfectants And Preservatives High-Efficiency Inhibition Of Mold In Product CAS7377-03-9
General Introduction An ideal bacteriostatic organic acid, has excellent antibacterial and bacteriostatic properties at acidic to neutral pH value, especially for mold. It is a safe, mild, non-irritating green preservative. It is free of any traditional preservatives, which make it an ideal for formulations that claim to be "preservative-free" and "parabens-free". It can be used in emulsion system, anhydrous formula and surfactant washing system, such as cream, lotion, shower gel, shampoo and make-up.

Product Efficacy:
Safety: The raw material for CHA is derived from coconut oil, making it a naturally sourced preservative with high safety. CHA has a long history of use in both animal and human applications, and its toxicity has been extensively researched. It can replace traditional preservatives and, when combined with polyols, form additive-free preservation systems for cosmetics and personal care products.
Efficacy of Organic Acids: CHA remains effective at neutral pH, making it an ideal bacteriostatic organic acid. Unlike other organic acids that attack molds (A. Niger) only when undissociated, CHA remains in the undissociated state throughout the acidic to neutral range.
Chelation Effect: CHA exhibits highly selective chelation with Fe2+ and Fe3+, reducing microbial growth in iron-restricted environments. It strongly inhibits the growth of A. Niger, with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 0.078%, as verified by authoritative testing from the UK's Intertek company.
Short Chain Antimicrobial Action: Similar to octenol, CHA, with its C8 carbon chain length, promotes cell membrane structure degradation.
Compatibility:
CHA shows good compatibility with the majority of cosmetic ingredients. Test results indicate that its antimicrobial ability is not affected by surfactants, proteins, or herbal additives. However, when reacting with a small amount of Fe3+ from clay materials like kaolin or silicon powder, a subtle orange color change may occur, more pronounced with higher Fe3+ content. Therefore, it is recommended to add EDTA-2Na as a chelating agent in formulations.
